Saviour
Scraps is a collaboration between four artists who reuse
collected fabrics and
clothing from friends to create fantastical
environments. These projects reflect the sentiment of
the materials
used. The group began at Allison Smith's The Muster in May
2005, and from there
created Rhythm of the Head: Braid, Braid as
the culmination of a summer residency at Secret
Project Robot.
This installation brought carefree feelings of nostalgia into the
raw space
through a garden complete with swings, grass, and vines.
After
a long winter Saviour Scraps is returning from hibernation to craft a home
for artists
wares in the form of a rustic cabin and general store nestled
in the heart of Secret Project
Robot. Tip-toe around a quilted wall that
glows with warm light to discover a cozy living room
with roaring fireplace,
backyard clothesline, and rustic handmade furniture that invites visitors
not only to take something home, but to feel at home. Rest your feet upon
a log, nestle in the
warmth of videos played in the fireplace, gaze at
the mountains in the distance, write a
postcard to a friend, read a zine
by lamplight, fall asleep under an enchanted forest. You can
take anything
home with you for a bag or two of "coins"…
Here’s what we need: artists to furnish our
walls with pictures, our shelves with objects, our
clotheslines with
wearable art, our cobwebs with jewelry, and our bookshelves with
videos,
books, zines and music. We need people interested in building
furniture suitable for the space,
along with things like homewares,
lighting, rugs, craftwork, ceramics, electronics, snowshoes,
pies,
the list goes on. Just as houses are full of ephemera, our space
will need to be filled with
its own objects - functional, decorative,
nostalgic, and sentimental.
Send ideas, pictures, websites, and more to SaviourScraps@gmail.com.
If you want to see
pictures of our previous installations, check out the links on
the homepage. Please feel free to
pass on this invitation for submissions to
your friends and let us know about anyone you think
we might be interested
in contacting.
The
Nitty-Gritty: All works will be priced by the artist (we encourage
affordable prices).
There will be a 20% commision that goes in support
of Secret Project Robot. Artists are
responsible for the delivery (hand
or mail) of their pieces to the space. We will look at your
email proposals
until April 14th. We must receive submissions by April 23rd....the LATEST.
Store
to open May 5th, 6 months duration.
Thanks!
Love,
The Scrappies
